POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a 9-month tenure track appointment with both research and teaching responsibilities at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia (UGA). The selected candidate will be expected to develop a broad research program related to aquatic ecosystem health. Research emphases could be ecotoxicology, contaminant biology, or imperiled aquatic species. The successful candidate would also be expected to participate in the UGA Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program (https://toxicology.uga.edu). The selected candidate will mentor graduate students, serve on School and University committees and actively participate in professional scientific societies. Required teaching will normally include two to three semester-long courses each academic year, including ecotoxicology. Other teaching responsibilities will depend on the selected candidate’s interests and areas of expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ecotoxicology or a related field as well as coursework and scholarly publications relevant to the position description. The successful candidate will have a strong background in aquatic science, particularly as it applies to effects of environmental stressors on aquatic organisms. At least 2 years experience working with natural aquatic systems of the southeastern U.S. or linking aquatic health to human well being would be viewed favorably. Demonstrated multidisciplinary collaborative work is preferred, with expectations for similar continued efforts with faculty both in Warnell and across the University. Strengths in oral and written communication must be evident, and evidence of excellence in teaching is preferred. Evidence of activity in research design, grant development, presentation of results at scientific meetings and publication of results in leading peer-reviewed journals is essential.
