FACULTY POSITION
Forestry and Natural Resources Faculty, Forest Management
Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Kentucky. This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment in the Regular Title Series. Anticipated starting date no later than August 1, 2020.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in forestry, natural resources, or allied fields with a strong academic background in forest management applications. At least one professional forestry degree is required.
Responsibilities: The position is 60% research, 30% teaching, and 10% service, subject to annual evaluation. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the Department’s academic community and make contributions to the institution’s land grant mission including building a nationally recognized research program, as demonstrated by success in acquiring extramural funding, publication in leading refereed journals, and graduate student recruitment and mentorship. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment with researchers in related fields and will foster collaboration with departmental faculty in teaching and through research relating to diverse forestry and natural resource issues. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in extension and outreach addressing critical forest management issues. The successful candidate’s research program must address management applications along the resource supply chain that consider operational, social, and economic drivers of and barriers to sustainability of forestry systems. Particular emphasis on family forest ownerships and forest resource use incorporating both market and non-market resources, including ecosystem services, is preferred. Expected teaching responsibilities include courses in forest management within the Department’s Bachelor of Science Forestry program and other undergraduate and graduate courses aligned with the successful candidate’s area of expertise such as forest measurements, forest operations, human dimensions of forestry, and/or introductory forestry and natural resources courses.
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources: The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is one of 14 academic departments in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment providing undergraduate and graduate instruction in forestry and natural resources, maintains Kentucky’s only Society of American Foresters accredited forestry program and contributes to inter-departmental programs and certificates. Faculty of the Department conduct basic and applied research to support our understanding and use of forest ecosystems and develop education and outreach solutions to address critical forest resource issues. Emphasis areas include ecology and silviculture, forest management and operations, wildlife ecology and conservation biology, economics, hydrology watershed management, and forest health and restoration. The Department has significant resources available to support its mission including the nationally recognized Robinson Forest and has significant partnerships and national recognition in forestry extension.
