Assistant Professor of Forest Ecosystem Services. Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Position Summary: The Forestry Program in the School of Agricultural Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective January 1, 2021. The new faculty member will collaborate with SIU Forestry colleagues as well as synergize with scientists in the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences and others across the university. The new faculty member will contribute to teaching undergraduate and graduate Forestry students across programmatic specializations.
Duties and Responsibilities: Required teaching will include an upper level undergraduate course in Forest Economics and other undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidates’ area of expertise that may include Water Resources, Wildlife Habitat Management, Forest Operations and Products, or Forest Soils. Involvement in teaching intersession field courses is expected. The new faculty member is expected to advise/mentor graduate and undergraduate students and to develop an externally funded research and outreach program with relevance to Illinois and the Midwest region focused on ecosystem services.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Forestry, Natural Resources, Water Resources, Wildlife, Fisheries, or another closely related field by the effective date of hire. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the PhD degree will be completed by December 31, 2020. 2. Demonstrated experience or ability in teaching relevant coursework.
3. Strong communication skills and an interest in instruction and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.
4. Demonstrated ability and strong interest in collaborative research with natural resource research scientists and professionals to develop and maintain an active research program.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a B.S. in Forestry from an SAF accredited university. Record of publications in refereed journals and securing of external research grants is also preferred.
