Position Information: The Agriculture Experiment Station (AES), Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences (DAFRS), and the Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Forest Ecology. This position is joint between the AES, DAFRS and DNS, and is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment. The anticipated starting date for this position is fall 2021.
University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890-Land- Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C. , Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA are within easy travel distance.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be primarily engaged in teaching undergraduate courses in the areas of Urban Forestry, Forest Ecology, Forest Wetlands, and Climate Change as well as a graduate course in Biometry, Statistics, or Experimental Design. The faculty is expected to
develop an externally-funded research program in the ecology of human-natural system interactions focusing on forests and forest-associated wetland hydrology, nutrient dynamics, and climate change as a component of UMES’s McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Program. Expectations also include student recruitment and advisement, assessment, and service to the institution. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Doctorate in Forestry, Environmental Science, or equivalent degree. Favorable review given to candidates with a strong experience in statistics to support program needs. A commitment to
continuous improvement of assigned courses and laboratories, including design and development of educational support materials.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Candidates should exhibit an ability to interact productively with others in a diverse setting and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
