Job Description - Forestry Data Management Specialist - Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design (18006) Forestry Data Management Specialist - Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design 18006 Description The Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University invites applications for the position of Forestry Data Management Specialist. This position will assist Research Forest staff with data collection, inventory and research database management, and GIS/Remote-sensing databases. Other tasks include activities essential to research and operations on the University Research Forest as well as other lands managed by the WVU Division of Forestry and Natural Resources.In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will: Collect information for the GPS/GIS database for the WVU Research Forest and other lands under the management of the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources.Collect timber cruise and research data, checking results for completeness and accuracy. Develop and maintain necessary databases for operations and research occurring on DFNR forest properties.Maintain all required records, reports, data statistics, etc. as mandated by Federal, State, WVU, DCANRD, and Division of Forestry and Natural Resources policies and procedures.Record, prepare and organize information for reports pertaining to research projects being conducted at the University Forest or other lands managed by the Division. Pay Grade: 17 Qualifications Master’s Degree in Forestry or related natural resource fieldAt least 6-months Database management experience At least 6-months GPS/GIS/Remote-sensing office and field work Computer skills using forest inventory programs such as cruising software, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, ESRI software packages. Tree and plant identification Knowledge of GPS/GIS and remote sensing. Must collect field data and place into a GIS program and produce clear and accurate maps of research areas and harvest boundaries.Ability to understand and follow laboratory and field safety regulations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions relating to research methods.Ability to organize results in logical format for report preparation. Ability to maintain records and reports.
