Fisheries Management
The School of Renewable Natural Resources consists of approximately 30 faculty members, 10 research, extension, and teaching associates, and 6 support staff members. There are about 300 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. The School has B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in Renewable Natural Resources with areas of concentration in Wildlife, Forestry, Forest Products, Watershed Science, and Fisheries and Aquaculture. The RNR faculty is a diverse group of talented, multidisciplinary professionals dedicated to fulfilling a Research I land-grant university's research, teaching, and extension missions.
Louisiana benefits from diverse and productive commercial and recreational fisheries. Freshwater and marine commercial landings were valued at $19 million and $250 million, respectively, in 2020. The total economic impacts of marine and freshwater recreational fisheries have been estimated at approximately $760 million and $980 million, respectively, in recent years.

The School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) (https://www.lsu.edu/rnr/) in the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center and LSU College of Agriculture invites applications for a 12-month faculty position in fisheries management with extension (65%) and research (35%) responsibilities. The Assistant/ Associate Professor will serve as an Extension Specialist in the School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) for the LSU Agricultural Center and the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program in all areas pertaining to sustainable fisheries management. The primary responsibility of this position is to
develop a nationally recognized extension and applied research program in fisheries management with an emphasis on aquatic species of economic importance to Louisiana.
The successful applicant will work with professionals from the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, the LSU AgCenter – School of Renewable Natural Resources, the LSU A&M campus, and other state, regional, and national universities through regular meetings, cooperative grants and contract efforts, graduate student mentoring, and other activities to develop relevant and responsive extension programming. The individual will provide educational opportunities and information to Louisiana's commercial and recreational fisheries sectors through various methods, as appropriate. In addition, the
Assistant / Associate Professor will also conduct field activities as needed and interact with relevant state, regional and national agencies and organizations. The successful applicant should provide evidence of collaborative accomplishments and will be expected to actively seek extramural funding through grants and contracts to build fisheries management extension and research programs aligned with identified focus areas.
Special Instructions:
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Fisheries or a related discipline. Effective human relations and public speaking skills will be required to work with various clientele and professional groups. The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form with diverse lay and professional audiences is required. Qualified applicants with demonstrated ability to communicate in Vietnamese or Spanish are encouraged to apply.
