On April 22, NAUFRP joined the Association of Public Land Grant Universities (APLU) and 40 other national and regional organizations in signing a letter sent to the House Speaker, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and House Minority Leader with copies to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees and Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittees requesting $380 million for NIFA in a future supplemental bill.
APLU is providing another opportunity for additional national and State organizations to sign onto the letter by April 29.
The letter provides support to all the APLU relief and recovery priorities for research and extension. The letter specifically mentions Hatch (State Agricultural Experiment Stations), Smith Lever (Cooperative Extension), Evans Allen, 1890s Extension, McIntire Stennis, and the Agricultural and Food Research Initiative. The letter also references infrastructure and workforce. ACTION ITEM: Due to urging that the sign-on deadline be extended, APLU will keep the letter open for stakeholder organization signatures until Wednesday, April 29 at 9 AM ET. Please consider circulating the attached letter to regional and state agriculture stakeholders including commodity organizations, grower groups, and other partners. Contact Caron Gala (cgala@aplu.org<mailto:cgala@aplu.org>) to add stakeholder organizations to the list signatories.
