The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) at Auburn University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month appointment in ecosystem modeling and observation with an emphasis on carbon/climate modeling, beginning in Fall 2023.
We seek an exceptional individual who will establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program in ecosystem dynamics. The successful candidate must have a background and in-depth experience/expertise in ecosystem modeling and application at multiple spatial and temporal scales. This individual is expected to develop/apply cutting edge research tools and techniques, including but not limited to remote sensing, network observations, and artificial intelligence/machine learning in one or more of the following fields: carbon and climate modeling, nutrient cycling, climate mitigation, and global change. Research and teaching experience in geospatial and environmental informatics is desirable. We seek a dynamic individual who will play a leadership role in ecosystem modeling and observation by integrating climate, ecological, hydrological, and biological sciences with social science and policy making.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will be expected to develop 1) an internationally recognized research program by publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and obtaining extramural research funding and 2) interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations with research teams on campus and beyond with a broad range of expertise. This individual is also expected to teach in his/her area of expertise at the graduate and undergraduate level. Responsibilities include recruiting and training graduate students, undergraduate mentoring, and college, university, and professional service. The successful candidate will also contribute to and/or provide a leadership role in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Earth System Science.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in earth system science or a related field with a strong record in conducting independent and cross-discipline research at the time of employment. We are especially interested in candidates who can work across disciplinary boundaries and contribute to the overall CFWE program, an undergraduate program in Geospatial and Environmental Informatics and the interdisciplinary Earth System Science Ph.D. program. The candidate selected for this position must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required, and a commitment to inclusion and diversity is essential.
Desired Qualifications
A demonstrated record of scholarly publication, extramural funding, and teaching at the university level is highly desirable. To be considered for the Associate/Full Professor level, candidates must provide examples of unique and significant contributions to research and teaching and convincing evidence of emerging stature as a national or international authority in their field.
