Job Summary
The Department of Forest Resources Management, Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia-Vancouver campus is accepting applications for a 5-year lecturer position (with possibility of renewal) in the area of Forest Operations and Forest Engineering.
This hire will support the Faculty’s continued development and expansion of its forest operations program by further enhancing student experiential learning opportunities and strengthening the forest engineering curriculum with a focus on the needs of professional organizations, First Nations & Community forests as well as the forest industry.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in forest operations, forest engineering, forestry, or a closely related discipline. Ideally, the candidate will have at least 3 years of practical forest operations and engineering experience working in the forest industry. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in forest harvesting planning and layout design, forest road planning and engineering, forest access structure planning and engineering, forest surveying and measurement, and the use of forest planning software such as ArcGIS & RoadEng.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be a BC Registered Professional Forester or be eligible to become one within two years of being in the position. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and extensive experience will also be considered under exceptional circumstances. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong ability and commitment to teaching in the classroom, leading field excursions as well as our spring and fall field schools through prior experience teaching or training students, trainees, or forest practitioners. The successful candidate is expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate level courses in the components of forest operations as outlined above.
As part of the UBC Faculty of Forestry’s engagement with external stakeholders, the duties of the successful candidate may also involve working with national and international academic and/or professional organizations and students.
