Title: Extension Assistant Professor, Forest Economics and Business

This is a 12-month position that will be 60% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), 40% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), and available in the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. The position is not tenure accruing. Duties will include developing a robust outreach (Extension) program aimed at forest landowners, forest products companies, and associated stakeholders in forest business/forest economics. Example outreach programming topics could include: developing markets for forest products and services; assessing costs, benefits, and financial implications of different forest management scenarios; long-term trends in costs, product prices, and other economic data; forest land appraisal; assessing the availability of silvicultural contractors, logging firms, and related; and/or the taxation of land, forest products, and ecosystem services. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding to support their outreach program.

Teaching duties will include offering undergraduate and graduate courses on topics including forest economics and management, natural resource economics and valuation, and related subjects. The faculty member will mentor undergraduate and graduate students by serving on graduate committees, supervising extension projects involving students, and chairing graduate student committees if relevant. The faculty member will be also be expected to: participate in curriculum revision and enhancement; seek funding for the teaching program where appropriate; publish teaching-related scholarship; produce learning tools; and engage in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.
Qualifications
Required:
Either a master's degree plus 10 years of relevant experience, or a doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in forest economics, forest business, or a closely related discipline. Significant experience with topics related to forest business, economics, forest markets, taxation, land appraisal, or related topics. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, forming and working in partnership with industry, agencies, and organizations. Candidates must be supportive of the Land-Grant system mission. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Preferred:
Demonstrated ability to procure extramural funding to support Extension programming.

The School offers bachelor’s degrees in Forest Resources and Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation, Geomatics, and Marine Sciences; thesis and non-thesis master’s degrees in all focal areas, including a number of innovative distance education master’s programs; and Ph.D. degrees in all focal areas.
